Wie können wir den 7. Oktober und seine Auswirkungen für junge Menschen und die Gesellschaft in Israel, aber auch in Deutschland im bilateralen Austauschrahmen thematisieren und pädagogisch vermitteln? Diese Fragen begleiteten den Entstehungsprozess des neu veröffentlichten methodischen Handbuchs, das auf den Ideen und Beiträgen einer bilateralen Arbeitsgruppe basiert – bestehend aus Pädagog*innen und Austauschfachkräften aus Israel und Deutschland. Vorgestellt wurde es erstmals auf dem Bilateralen Netzwerkseminar für Partnerschaften im Deutsch-Israelischen Jugendaustausch von ConAct, der Israel Youth Exchange Authority und dem Council of Youth Movements in Israel in Berlin, das Anfang April 2024 mit über 100 Fachkräften beider Länder im Rahmen der Initiative WE ARE CONNECTED stattfand.
Das englischsprachige Toolkit „Education and Encounter after October 7“ bietet Orientierungshilfen und pädagogische Anregungen für Multiplikator*innen im deutsch-israelischen Jugendaustausch. Neben der Suche nach einer geeigneten Sprache, um über die Ereignisse des 7. Oktobers zu sprechen, ermutigt das Toolkit pädagogische Fachkräfte aus beiden Ländern, zu diesen Themen bilateral in Austausch zu treten.
Das bereitgestellte Material beleuchtet die Auswirkungen der Ereignisse auf die israelische Gesellschaft und schärft das Bewusstsein für den zunehmenden Antisemitismus in Deutschland sowie weltweit. Es unterstreicht die Bedeutung des Gedenkens der von den Anschlägen am 7. Oktober Betroffenen. Zudem hebt das Toolkit die kontinuierlichen Bemühungen hervor, die Verbindungen zwischen jungen Menschen aus Deutschland und Israel in diesen schwierigen Zeiten zu stärken.
Das Toolkit wurde entwickelt und geschrieben, während der Krieg in Israel noch immer anhält und viele Fragen über seine Art und Dauer sowohl in der deutschen als auch in der israelischen Öffentlichkeit aufkommen. Die Relevanz des Handbuchs ist offensichtlich. Bei den Materialien und Aktivitäten handelt es sich um „work in progress“. Sie können an die aktuellen Entwicklungen und zukünftigen Realitäten angepasst werden, sollen jedoch in diesem Moment den Weg für ein erneutes Zusammentreffen ebnen.

ConAct, Israel Youth Exchange Authority and Council of Youth Movements in Israel publish educational toolkit to accompany German-Israeli youth exchange programs in light of the October 7 attack on Israel
How can we address the topic of October 7 and its impact on young people and society in Israel, but also in Germany, in the bilateral exchange framework and convey it educationally? These questions accompanied the development process of the newly published methodological handbook, which is based on the ideas and contributions of a bilateral working group – consisting of educators and exchange specialists from Israel and Germany. It was presented for the first time at the Bilateral Network Seminar for Partnerships in German-Israeli Youth Exchange organized by ConAct, the Israel Youth Exchange Authority and the Council of Youth Movements in Israel in Berlin, which took place in early April 2024 with over 100 professionals from both countries as part of the WE ARE CONNECTED initiative.
The English-language toolkit “Education and Encounter after October 7” offers guidance and educational suggestions for multipliers in German-Israeli youth exchanges. In addition to finding a suitable language to talk about the events of October 7, the toolkit encourages educational professionals from both countries to engage in bilateral exchanges on these topics.
The material provided highlights the impact of the events on Israeli society and raises awareness of the growing antisemitism in Germany and worldwide. It underlines the importance of remembering those affected by the attacks on October 7. The toolkit also highlights the ongoing efforts to strengthen links between young people from Germany and Israel in these difficult times.
The toolkit was developed and written while the war in Israel is still ongoing and many questions about its nature and duration arise by both the German and Israeli public. The relevance of the toolkit is obvious. However, the material and activities are a work in progress that can be adapted to current developments and future realities. At this moment, this toolkit should pave the way for new encounters taking place.
