As part of a creative writing workshop, the young participants created the poem “For a Better Tomorrow” at the German-Israeli Youth Congress 2025. Through poetic imagery, the young participants speak of hope and unity – but also of pain, responsibility, and the hope for peace.

For A Better Tomorrow

80 years of peace is a great example of success.
Let us tell you about our dream
For which we are here to lay the seed
A blooming meadow with flowers aplenty
The daisies in blossom, the colours unending.

But nothing like this will ever grow
Until the hostages are back home!

Our roots are connected like trees in this field
A bond to cherish, a promise to keep
The winter was scathing
All branches were torn
Still we are healing
A meadow reborn

But don’t dare to forget, no peace will be born
Until the hostages, all of them, come back home

The roots that created this tree are different
And yet we are here, just sharing a cigarette
As long as we’re breathing
Our hearts are still beating

Whispering little feelings of love
And when you feel the love, so tender and sweet
The past is gone, the present a treat
When it’s late at night and we are watching the stars
It hits us: Wow! We’ve made it so far!

When it`s late at night and YOU are watching the stars
You must only think about our people struggling to breathe in the dark

We do not carry our past as a burden
But as chance and example to overcome hurdles
So that never again a rocket will fly
So that never again a mother will cry
So that never again a human will die
To whatever faith they might subscribe.

In a world full of fake
In a world full of hate

When you don’t know what’s true
To be honest - who has the truth - me or you?
In a world full of dishonest debate

Don’t close your eyes - stay awake!
Build bridges above the floods
Of hate, division and spilled blood

Peace is a luxury, often neglected
By those who enjoy it rarely reflected
For those who live in worlds of sorrow
Just a promise of a better tommorow

The meadow will grow
The trees standing tall
So when they return, we’ll be with them all.
Together we’ll dance and twirl through the grass
A dance we hope forever to last.
