What brings people closer together than cooking and eating? And what represents multiple cultures, a diversity of narratives and richness of family hisotries more than the dishes they serve? As food is a key to encounter between people and cultures, the German-Israeli youth contacts are also nurished by its various aspects.

In 2023, ConAct and the Israel Youth Exchange Authority publish the recipe book A Biss of Culture – a Taste of German-Israeli Youth Exchange. The idea for the book was developed, planned and implemented by young people active in the German-Israeli exchange on the program German-Israeli Youth exchange Lab 2022.

A Biss of Culture contains recipes from both countries, contributed by amateur cooks who tell the stories behind their recipes. It aims to show the social diversity in both countries by providing examples of dishes from different regions, traditions and family histories. Each recipe is accompanied by questions for a conversation or short games, inviting the readers not only to actively follow the preparation of the dishes, but also to participate in the discourse about the various cultures and societies in Germany and Israel.
